w koncu pare slow o mojej prawie ulubionej formacji (przy takiej ilosci trudno mowic o "ulubionych" zespolach) w kazdym razie co by nie bylo zaden twor muzyczny nie wyzwala u mnie tak wiele tak silnych emocji jak wlasnie Current...
jedynym stalym czlonkiem zespolu jest D. Tibet (real: David Michael Bunting) ktory dobiera sobie muzykow na plyty i koncerty. z Tibetem w Currencie wspolpracowaly takie "gwiazdy" jak John Balance, Boyd Rice, Douglas Pearce, Peter Christopherson, Tony Wakeford jak i przyjaciel Tibeta Steven Stapleton... Sam Tibet byl tez czlonkiem legendarnego Psychic Tv i 23 Skidoo.
nazwa Current 93 znaczy doslownie nurt 93 i odwoluje sie do magiczno-filozoficznego nurtu stworzonego przez A. Crowleya opartego na "religii" Thelemy.

Z poczatku teksty byly przesycone chrzescijanska, magiczna i mistyczna symbolika z wscieklym "Crowleyowskim" zacieciem (tytuly typu Christus Christus czy Ah Golgotha Maldoror Is Dead) tytulowy Maldoror to bohater "piesni maldorora" autorstwa Lautremonta (porownywanego z markizem de sade) czlowiek zly do glebi.
Muzyka z rytualnej przez chaotyczna ewoluowala w strone neofolku stajac sie coraz bardziej lagodna. Mimo wzglednej lagodnosci nadal pozostaje nasycona ogromnym ladunkiem emocjonalnym i pelna pieknych symboli/obrazow. W zasadzie wszystkie pozniejsze utwory to wiersze Tibeta o smierci, chrystusie, wnetrzu, duchach... Zdarzyla sie nawet plyta stricte spoken word gdzie Tibet recytuje wiersze tylko z akompaniamentem pianina (Hypnagogue).
Current nadal istnieje, gra koncerty i wydaje plyty. ostatnio np. hold dla zmarlego Johna Balance'a (How He Loved The Moon (Moonsongs For Jhonn Balance))

słyszałam jedną płytkę
w tej chwili nie pamiętam tytułu, wiem że był kawałek co miał wild horses w tytule. Bardzo mi się spodobała płytka, wyciszająca. W tej chwili więcej nie mogę powiedzieć, bo nie pamiętam ^^Na pewno jest to coś, do czego powrócę.

Current 93's second outing runs in a fairly similar vein to Nature Unveiled, but
with perhaps a little more style and a fuller development of ideas. This is
really a great album: eerie, disturbing, and powerful. In fact, this album is
perhaps the finest example of the experimental side of Current 93. Most (but not
all) of the lyrics are included in the liner.
Track one, CHRISTUS CHRISTUS, is simply a repetition of the title (in various
distorted and non-distorted voices), over howling and plenty of scary background
noises. The lyrics are included in the CD liner, believe it or not; it's kind of
a giggle seeing "christus christus christus christus" repeated over a hundred
times on the page.
FALLING BACK IN FIELDS OF RAPE begins with simple drumming, a choir in the
background, some sort of backwards-sounding noises, and a voice (Steve Ignorant,
I'm told) repeating "war." It eventually meshes into Steve Ignorant screeching
out the lyrics over hammering and distortion. Later, a young girl's voice sings
the familiar "here we go round the mulberry bush" rhyme, and then rips into the
lyrics yelled earlier by Ignorant. This is followed by more distorted vocals, a
woman's monotone voice (informants tell me this is Iggy from the band No
Defenses) recounting atrocities over a choir's chanting. Finally, Tibet ends the
piece by asking "and what would you do, my gentlest one?", and a final
repetition of the title. Pay attention to this song; you'll find the concept of
"fields of rape" running constantly throughout the early and middle years of
Current 93.
Propeller-style buzzings, strange drumming, and a loop of Crowley(?) chanting
begin FROM BROKEN CROSS, LOCUSTS. Tibet growls and howls through distortion for
much of the piece, which continues in pretty much the same vein as it begins.
The words "lucifer" and "anti-christ" are the dominant theme.
RAIO NO TERRASU, according to the liner notes, was recorded on the thirteenth
anniversary of the suicide of novelist Yukio Mishima through hari-kari and
beheading. More scary choir music, with (of course) distortion and lots of
passionate vocals from Tibet (mostly "jesus wept"). Note that the "christus
christus" theme make a re-appearance in this piece.
Most of you will recognize ST. PETER'S KEYS ALL BLOODY as a cover of Simon &
Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence" (and including pieces of the traditional song
"Scarborough Fair"). Tibet hisses most of the lyrics (as well as some of his
own) as another voice sings the song rather more melodically. No lyrics are
offered in the liner for this one.
The final track, DOGS BLOOD RISING, sounds very much like a return to the Nature
Unveiled sessions, with plenty of very slow vocals and disturbing growlings,
made stranger by some quick stereo panning. The mostly un-intelligible lyrics
are not included in the CD liner.

Imperium
Occasionally credited as the most depressing Current 93 album, Imperium is
indeed a deeply melancholy work. Supposedly, David Tibet was ill and possibly
near death when the album was recorded, and I suspect it's a reflection of his
thoughts, at that time, on life and mortality. It's also an extremely Biblical
album, quoting extensively from Psalms and Ecclesiastes. Some of the concepts
(and titles) are most likely inspired by the book Imperium (by Francis P.
Yockey), which deals with the life-cycles of civilizations. There are no lyrics,
and actually, no real liner notes of any kind.
A mixture of low rushings, melodic strings, and eerie flute, IMPERIUM I is a
powerful beginning. Tibet's vocals are mostly whispered over the melancholy and
morbid background music, mixing his lyrics with words from the Bible.
Continuing on in the established theme, IMPERIUM II is (for me) the darkest and
most depressing song on the album. The music is mostly acoustic guitar, with
some low electronics in the background and classical-style music meshing in
towards the end. Tibet's voice is particularly emotional in this piece, and the
lyrics are dreadfully melancholy (mostly dealing with how everyone ultimately
dies).
IMPERIUM III has some rather experimental overtones, as the background contains
some very slowed-down vocals. The background music in the early part of this
piece sounds as though it's being played on an old record player, while the
latter part is a partially-distorted choir.
IMPERIUM IV is somewhat of a letdown after the first three parts. The guitar is
a little too simplistic, and the lyrics a little too (pointlessly) Biblical for
my taste. It's not a bad song, it's just not as good as the previous three.
BE is a short and very odd piece. Music consists of strummed guitar and a loop
of a high-pitched voice saying "lalalala." Despite the rather upbeat music, the
lyrics remain quite depressing.
The sixth track, LOCUST, is kind of a rock-ish song, complete with drums and
guitar (and some nice low background electronics). Lyrically, it mostly deals
with the concept of "only the strong survive." Quite a nice piece.
The beginning of OR is mostly David Tibet sedately reading prophecies over a
choir and a solo male singer (who sounds to me like he might be singing a
military tune). Later parts gain a lot of intensity, and include bass and drums
and various electronics, with Tibet rabidly yelling things like "annihilation"
and "take me to my dead christ" and offering a few obligatory wails. There's a
sort of brief sampled loop in here as well, but is pretty unintelligible.
ALONE, rather more mellow than the passionate OR, is a mixture of very simple
bass and electronics, with Tibet sharing more of his thoughts on mortality. The
lyrics are really the important part of this song, very powerful and with a
sense of finality, almost as though he's summing up the previous tracks and the
meaning of life at the same time. The music is somewhat simplistic and
repetitive.
TIME STANDS STILL is the perfect ending to the album. Tibet's great vocals are
meshed with those of Patrick Magee reciting a text from the play "Marat/Sade."
The music is a mixture of simple, but very effective violin, drums and bass, and
in fact sounds almost as though it's a traditional melody (which it very well
may be). Naturally, the lyrics continue to be depressing.
Epilogue (on unlisted final track): (David Tibet) "Once the Buddha smiled. And
by the wondrous radiance of that smile, countless worlds were illuminated. But
there came a voice that said, "it isn't real; it cannot last." And the light
passed."

Nawet nie wiedziałem, że jest tutaj taki temat. Jak go zakładano to mnie tu jeszcze nie było ; (

Ulubione Currenty wymienie jeszcze raz, dla potrzeb tematu. Bardzo lubię np. "Island", "Swastikas For Goddy", "Soft Black Stars" czy "Imperium".

. Większość podanych znam, nie znam właśnie Sopor Aeternus, Boyd Rice & Friends i Der Blutharsh. Sprawdzę, skoro dobre.Może by z tego zrobić jeden duży temat o neo-folku?
Ja ze swojej strony polecam The Well Of Sadness, Majdanek Waltz czy z nieco innych klimatów, ale też dla fanów Currenta (przynajmniej tak mi się zdaje), Blood Axis. Mocna rzecz. Fajnie też zrobili "Walked in line" Joy Division.

Znam tylko Soft black stars i mnie ten album rozpierdala (ale on jest podobno specyficzny bo oprocz fortepianu i melorecytacji tam nic nie ma )

Ja tam już kilka miesięcy temu miałem styczność z tym zespołem, ale mnie nie powalił. Teraz, przeszukując mój dysk, spróbowałem posłuchać Current 93 jeszcze raz. No i w końcu coś zaskoczyło, ich muzyka naprawdę mi się spodobała! Na razie rozkminiłem sobie tylko "Lucifer Over London", a skoro Balzac pisze, że są jeszcze lepsze albumy, to nie mogę się doczekać żeby poznać więcej. Za jakiś czas skrobnę coś konkretniejszego (muszę się jeszcze z tym osłuchać) - w tej chwili mogę stwierdzić jedynie, że trzeba mieć odpowiedni nastrój, aby w pełni docenić piękno tej muzyki.

moze byc niedrogo. miasto wrocław zawsze dokłada do koncertów organizowanych pzez ta ekipe -> industrial festiwal. poza tym ile by nie kosztowało isc trzeba..
